Earth Breeze Review – Best Eco-friendly Laundry Detergent Sheets

Oh laundry….the endless household task that most people despise, but is a requirement to do and part of life’s routine. We’ve been trying to improve our sustainable living lifestyle in various ways (Read here about 19 easy ways we are), one of which is to switch to more eco-friendly products.
Recently, we swapped our liquid detergent for Earth Breeze’s eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets, which has been a great eco-swap for us. We’re always doing our best to share our sustainable living journey with you, so that you can evaluate and make the best eco-conscious decisions for your family!
So here’s an honest (and extensive) review of Earth Breeze’s eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets! But before we dive into the review, let’s go over how we approach the laundry routine in an eco-friendly way.
Having an Eco-friendly Laundry Routine
First and foremost, we personally have found that consciously having an eco-friendly laundry routine is beneficial toward improving our green living lifestyle. Here are a couple of tips we have for an eco-friendly laundry routine.
- Wash Less – To be honest, we only do a majority of our loads of laundry every couple weeks. Besides needing to wash cloth diapers/potty-training underwear, we own enough clothing to make it multiple weeks. I’m sure many of you do too! Additionally, a lot of clothing doesn’t need to be washed every time. Besides underwear, I personally only wash my jeans once a month or when they’ve become stretched out or dirty. By washing less (as typically it’s not necessary every week) you are wasting less water and energy, which can help the environment, as well as prolonging the life of your clothing.
- Wash in Cold Water – Most of your laundry’s energy consumption goes into warming up the water. With many laundry detergents formulated to wash with cold water, you can save a ton of energy by washing in cold water. Most laundry detergents are cold water safe and it gets your clothing clean whether it’s hot or cold.
- Repair what you have – We all end up with holes or rips in some piece of clothing at some point. Instead of no longer wearing that piece of clothing, finding a way to repair it is usually fairly simple. A simple needle and thread can stitch up a lot of clothing and make it seem brand new. I’m not the best seamstress (my hubby is way better than me!), but even I learned to sew a button on and sew up a small hole in a shirt. Repairing what you have gives clothing a longer use and life cycle, which is good for the environment and your wallet!
- Repurpose/Reuse – When clothing articles get too damaged beyond repair, we try to repurpose them into rags for staining our wood projects or you could even make handkerchiefs/cloth tissues. There are a lot of options to reuse what you have instead of tossing out the old clothes!
- Buy more sustainably or thrift shop – This is definitely something that as a family we are working on as it’s hard. We all see the cute dress or adorable kid shirt and just want to buy it right then. Trying to buy less synthetic fabrics and instead, clothes with natural fibers is just a small step we can make to reduce our footprint.
By taking better care of the clothing we already have through repairing, repurposing, and washing less, we can have a positive environmental impact!
Why Switch To Liquidless Laundry Detergent?
According to National Geographic, only 9% of plastics end up being actually recycled meaning millions of tons of plastic end up in the landfill and oceans each year. There are approximately 700 million plastic jugs ending up in the landfill every year.
Not only are many laundry detergents big plastic jugs filled with water, they are also filled with chemicals that can be harmful to the environment. Earth Breeze’s eco-friendly alternative uses dye-free, paraben-free, vegan, and environmentally-safe ingredients in their detergent.

So Who Is Earth Breeze?
Earth Breeze is an American-founded company with a warehouse in Oregon and team all around the world. They are part of the 1% For The Planet organization, which means they donate 1% of total sales to community organizations. Also, Earth Breeze is part of We Are Neutral, which ensures they offset any carbon emissions from their production, shipping, and operations. Lastly, they are committed to environmental advocacy with their operations participating in ocean cleanups and planting trees.
UPDATE: Earth Breeze is now a certified B Corporation. This means they are committed to the highest standards of social and environmental impact. B Corp Certification is a “designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials” (source). There are only around 8,000 companies around the world with this certification currently.
Where is Earth Breeze made?
Earth breeze detergent sheets are manufactured in China with their headquarters and warehouses based in the USA in Oregon. They also have a UK warehouse for UK local shipping. Yes, Earth Breeze detergent sheets are made in China, but the quality is great and as a Certified B corporation their social and environmental impacts are verified. The Earth Breeze Hope Cloth is made in Germany and printed in China.
Reasons to Try Earth Breeze Detergent
While there are other options out there, the best eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets we’ve tried and loved so far are by Earth Breeze. There are many reasons to try a product, but here are the four main reasons why we chose to try Earth Breeze.
Saving Water
Waterless detergents like Earth Breeze’s laundry detergent sheets save a LOT of water for various reasons. It skips the water, oil, and energy to make plastic bottles, the fuel to transport a heavy bottle, and all the added water that goes into liquid detergent (up to 90% of liquid detergent can be water). Earth Breeze comes in a sheet/strip form that obviously weighs a lot less than your typical liquid/powder laundry detergent container and takes up less space. This helps reduce the carbon footprint to transport. Also, this eco-friendly laundry detergent sheet only needs the water in your washing machine that you’re already paying for. So why pay for extra unnecessary water in a bottle?
Truly cleans
In our experience so far, these eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets truly clean your laundry. For example, we use detergent sheets to clean our child’s cloth diapers and potty-training underwear…which let me tell you can be very dirty. Earth Breeze’s eco-sheets don’t appear to leave any residue or build-up. This is critical for parents washing children’s clothing, especially for maintaining cloth diapers’ water absorbency and for sensitive baby skin.

Works Efficiently – Septic, HE & Cold Water Safe
Like I mentioned earlier, wasting less water and energy is a way we are trying to have a positive impact on the environment. Earth Breeze’s eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets work well with high-efficiency (HE) washers and dissolve just fine using cold water for your loads. Also, Earth Breeze states the laundry detergent sheets are safe to use with septic and grey water systems, which is another bonus!
Giving Back
Earth Breeze has a great commitment to giving back. Whenever someone buys one package or subscribes, they donate 10 loads of detergent to people in need! And you get to help make a choice where that donation goes from displaced families to women’s shelters to veterans (read more here). How Much Does Earth Breeze Cost Per Load?
With the one-time purchase, the laundry detergent sheets are $0.33 per load. However, with the subscription price, it drops to $0.20 per load making it an excellent value!
A few liquid detergents can get you down to under $0.16 per load, but are mostly water, stored in bulky plastic jugs, give nothing back to communities, and can pollute landfills or oceans. A few cents difference can make a big impact!
Because their subscription is “no contract”, you can literally pause it or cancel it anytime. That means you could sign up for the subscription, try your first load, and either pause the subscription or cancel it immediately if you’re not satisfied.
We’ve been completely satisfied, so never canceled. But definitely used the pause function when we weren’t doing as much laundry or purchased a stockpile of Earth Breeze detergent sheets when there was a sale!

Originally, Earth Breeze only had two liquidless detergent sheets (Fragrance Free & Fresh Scent). But now they offer a few more products!
Hope Cloth
Hope Cloth is like what most people call a “swedish dishcloth”. It’s a great paper towel alternative that’s absorbent and durable. Use it to wipe up messes, rinse it in water, let dry, and then use it again. Their quick dry technology claims to help prevent bacteria growth and mildew. We’ve never had issues with reusable cloths like these as long as you wash it out immediately.
Also, every purchase of a Hope Cloth product provides 10 meals to those in need!
Did You Know – 13 billion pounds of paper towels are used each year. Paper towels can end up in oceans and landfills and are a major contributor to deforestation. It’s crucial to find an alternative.
Power Pebbles
Just like liquid laundry detergent, liquid dishwasher detergent can come in bulky plastic jugs and have harmful chemicals. Even if you don’t use liquid detergent, many others are packaged or made with plastic. A lot of big name brand pods are powder detergent wrapped in a very thin plastic. When heated they release micro-plastics that make it back to our water streams. Or there are dissolvable tablets that come individually wrapped in flimsy foil or plastic.
Power Pebbles is a great plastic-free detergent as it is a powerful powder tablet that comes with no plastic packaging and is shipped only in cardboard. Earth Breeze is great and always offers both a Fragrance Free and scented option (Lemon Citrus) for their products.
Personally, we like to use Dropps dishwasher pods as we can get them at our local refill station when needed.

Can you use an HE washer with detergent sheets?
Each detergent is different, so check what the manufacturer states. Earth Breeze detergent sheets are designed to work with high-efficiency machines, front loaders, and top loaders.
Can Earth Breeze be used in cold water?
The eco sheets are designed to dissolve in cold water. This is great for reducing your energy consumption by washing clothing in cold water.
Can you use Earth Breeze with cloth diapers?
Yes, Earth Breeze states that their laundry detergent sheets are safe for cloth diapers. We’ve used them with ours, and they clean thoroughly with no damage.
How many washes do you get from Earth Breeze laundry detergent sheets?
Each package comes with 30 full sheets that equal out to 60 industry standard loads when split in half. We’ve only used full sheets when cleaning cloth diapers or really dirty clothing. It cleans powerfully enough that we’ve never needed two sheets.
But depending on your wash and whether you enjoy a lot of scent, you might have varied results. So test it out and see what works for your laundry routine!
What are Earth Breeze’s Eco Sheets ingredients?
According to Earth Breeze, their formula is dermatologist tested, bleach-free, phosphate-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, as well as vegan and cruelty-free.
Fragrance Free ingredients include: Glycerol, Primary Alcohol Ethoxylate, Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate, Sodium Acetate Trihydrate, Polyvinyl alcohol, Polyethylene Glycol, Fragrance, Deionized Water, and Starch (Corn).
For the Fresh Scent sheets, an essence is added. Earth Breeze states the laundry detergent sheets are hypoallergenic and great for sensitive skin.
How long can you store Earth Breeze eco sheets?
If kept unopened and stored in a dry place, then the laundry detergent sheets can last up to 18 months.

As mentioned previously, it’s best to use up what you have first and foremost so as not to be wasteful. Once we had used up all our liquid detergents, we were super excited to try a more eco-friendly product and found that Earth Breeze has been the best eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets for us!

Hi! Our toddler has been out of cloth diapers for a while now, but Earth Breeze worked well with ours the whole time we used them. We still use Earth Breeze with all of our laundry today. It’s worked great for us, even through the potty-training stage, too!

I’ve been using Earth Breeze laundry sheets for about a year now and have been very happy with them but I still have a few packages left so I paused my subscription for a few more months. I just read they last unopened on shelf for about 18 mo. What happens to them after that time period? Do they lose there cleaning ability?

We’ve used up all our Earth Breeze sheets prior to the 18 months, so I don’t know from personal experience. But yeah I would assume the may lose a little cleaning effectiveness once past that 18 months. I would think they’re still usable and wouldn’t lose that much cleaning effectiveness within a few months of that 18 month timeframe. I would just run a test load with one of the older Earth Breeze sheets, see how well it cleans, and then if it’s not as clean as you’d like just add more of the detergent sheets next time.
