Castle joints are almost done! I love the cool jo Castle joints are almost done!

I love the cool joinery you can do with wood! Used our @dewalttough plunge router to make it.

You'd probably laugh at what we're making this joint for 😆

Do you have a rain barrel setup?

We almost messed this up!!! Even being serial DIY We almost messed this up!!!

Even being serial DIYers we make mistakes still. You'd never really be able to tell here, but during the build process for this planter box, we accidentally used @titebondproducts interior wood glue instead of the exterior glue. With this planter box exposed to the elements, we didn't want it to fall apart later, so we had to do some creative thinking.

Wood glue is strong, people!!! We tried to pull it apart to go back and apply the correct glue, but it would have destroyed the planter. Instead, we decided to add some splines (a strip of wood inserted into matching grooves along the edges of two boards) to strengthen the mitered corners and help hold it together if the glue failed.

Learn from your mistakes, adapt and it can turn out amazing! Adding these splines with a contrasting wood color is a planter box aesthetic I never knew I wanted until we had to do it.

What do you think of the details!? And don't you love that finish?

Strengthening corners 🙌 Added some gorgeous sp Strengthening corners 🙌

Added some gorgeous splines using scrap wood from our bed frame project to strengthen the mitered corners.

If you don't know what a spline is, it's basically a strip of wood inserted into a groove along the edge where two boards meet. This gives a corner extra strength and keeps it from coming apart.

I also love it for the aesthetic 😆 I'm a sucker for contrasting wood accents!

What do you think of it?!

The Roots 🌱 Today I repotted my artichokes I s The Roots 🌱

Today I repotted my artichokes I started from seed back in January. And I can't help but be in awe of the roots. They go on farther than the photos for such a small seedling.

Growing food is a mash up of our two loves: sustainable living and DIY. There is a lot of learning, researching, and trying to figure out how to do it yourself. It helps feed us and reduces our waste, leading to a more eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle.

I highly recommend trying to grow something this year even if it's only herbs in a container. That's one less thing to buy in a plastic container from the store.
Small steps can lead to impactful changes. I've always loved plants, but gosh do I love ones I've personally grown and can eat so much more!

It's a wonderful way to Live Big but leave a Little Footprint on this world 💚🌱

And I love to write about it so make sure to check out our blog!
